Universal Column Sections

Universal column sections (UCs) are a type of hot rolled steel section that is characterized by its H-shaped cross-section. The H-shaped cross-section provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, making UCs well-suited for a variety of structural applications.

UCs are available in a wide range of sizes, with depths ranging from 100 mm to 600 mm and widths ranging from 65 mm to 300 mm. They are typically made from mild steel, but can also be made from other grades of steel, such as high-strength steel or stainless steel.

UCs have a number of advantages over other structural members, including:

  • Strength: UCs are very strong and can withstand heavy loads.
  • Lightweight: UCs are relatively lightweight, making them easy to transport and handle.
  • Corrosion resistance: UCs are resistant to corrosion, making them suitable for use in outdoor applications.
  • Versatility: UCs are available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, making them adaptable to different applications.
  • Cost-effectiveness: UCs are typically more cost-effective than other types of steel sections.

UCs are used in a variety of applications, including:

  • Columns: UCs are commonly used as columns in buildings and bridges.
  • Beams: UCs can be used as beams in buildings and other structures.
  • Purlins: UCs can be used as purlins in roofs and other structures.
  • Joists: UCs can be used as joists in floors and other structures.
  • Machinery: UCs are used in the construction of machinery and equipment.
  • Shipping containers: UCs are used in the construction of shipping containers.
